Dogs

Dogs are most welcome here at our house! We have two lovable pooches ourselves. Anglesey is the ideal spot to holiday with your dogs, as so many places are dog friendly and there are miles of beaches to let them explore and run free.

If you wish to bring your dog with you, please let us know in advance and please see our dog policy page. We don't have a cap on the number of dogs you can bring, but please do let us know how many and what breed dogs you would like to bring, just so we can let you know if we have enough space and facilities for them!

Where to go with your dog
Cemaes, and the whole of Anglesey is generally very dog friendly. They are allowed in many local pubs, cafes and restaurants. There are two beaches at Cemaes Bay, the smaller beach (Traeth Bach) is dog friendly all year, and the big beach (Traeth Mawr) restricts dogs on half of the beach May – September, but they are allowed on the far end of this beach all year. There are signs on the promenade that show clearly where they can and can’t go during the May – September restrictions.

At the far end of the beach promenade (just after the second car park) there are a set of steps up on the left that take you up onto the Anglesey coastal path, where you can follow it round towards Llanbadrig Church. This has to be one of the most scenic churches on Anglesey, and is well worth a visit. If you continue past Llanbadrig Church you will reach the remains of Llanlleiana porcelain works.

Also accessible from the property is The Wygyr River Valley, which is best accessed down the steps at the side of the Heritage Centre/Banc Café. Once at the bottom of the steps you cross a small river, and a left turn takes you towards the harbour and beaches and a right turn takes you along the river path. This pathway is teeming with wildlife and local plants. There used to be a railway line here going to the old brickworks. In fact if you follow the path long enough (some parts can get muddy and unkempt!) you will reach the old brickworks themselves and see the old chimney.

You can also access the Anglesey Coastal Path from the other side of the village, following the road up past little beach. Once you get up the small hill you will see the coastal path from the road. There are some benches dotted around that area where you can sit and enjoy a different view of Cemaes Bay.

Further Afield
If you are happy to hop in your car and explore some other lovely walks further afield, we can highly recommend the following areas:

Parys Mountain. A real must-see in our book! Ancient copper mine with beautiful colours and stunning views!

South Stack Lighthouse – Holy Island. This lighthouse provides a stunning view (see the photo in the lounge!) and a lighthouse you can visit if you are willing to climb down (and back up!) the 400 or so steps! Dogs are allowed onto the lighthouse island but not inside the lighthouse. Charges apply if you want to visit the lighthouse but walking the coastal path to admire the view is free. (Some parking charges are set to be put in place this year by the RSPB). RSPB have “Ellin’s Tower Observatory” at South Stack.

Just across the road from south stack are the TÅ· Mawr hut circles, which comprise some 8 small farmsteads dating back 4000 years.

Ynys Llanddwyn or Llanddwyn Island – Newborough. This beautiful island is not quite an island, it remains attached to the mainland apart from during high tide, when the water cuts the island off from the mainland. If you visit be sure to note the tide times, and get back to mainland before high tide, or you risk a night on the island!! This magical place has a rich history, read more about it here. Dog restrictions are sometimes in place here and on the nearby Newborough beach, so do check online before taking your dogs. The forest, Newborough warren, is dog friendly all year and well worth a walk!

Beaches
With around 125 miles of stunning coastline, you will not be short of beaches on your trip to Anglesey. Whether you want a busy beach situated next to shops and bars like Trearddur Bay, Benllech or Rhosneigr or you want quieter beaches with nothing (and often no one else) around, there are plenty to choose from on Anglesey. Hop into the car, follow the coastal roads and find your favourite beach!

We’ve been coming to Anglesey for many years now, however we have far from seen everywhere! We’d love to hear about any hidden gems or favourite places you find during your stay! Please leave a note of them in the guest book for us and other guests to find!
